Dr. Melissa graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in 1998 with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, a BS in Human Biology, and a certificate to practice acupuncture. She currently serves as an associate faculty doctor from Northwestern Health Sciences University as well. Dr. Melissa has successfully completed her Diplomate in chiropractic Pediatrics with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). This three year, 360 hour postgraduate course has provided Dr. Millner with the advanced skills and techniques to better care for children and pregnant women in her practice. Her diplomate status was awarded by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and the Academy of Chiropractic Pediatrics, both international, academic organizations dedicated to the advancement of the chiropractic family wellness lifestyle. Through research, training and education these organizations are fulfilling their vision worldwide. After passing a rigorous board exam in November of 2004, this Diplomate status proves her dedication to the children of this community. Approximately 25 chiropractors out of 50,000 in our country have completed the coursework and sat for the boards to achieve this degree.
Dr. Melissa already sees children battling with colic, acid reflux, sleeplessness, ear infections, torticollis, stomach and bowel disorders, allergies, asthma, other conditions stemming from a low functioning immune system, ADHD, bed wetting, scoliosis, and Down Syndrome on a regular basis, with great results. What this degree gives her more specific knowledge in is working with children with Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders, Brain injury, Hypotonia, Neural Tube defects, Epilepsy, Cranial/head molding problems, cancer, seizure disorders, Developmental Delays, Food and Environmental Allergies, as well as much more.
Dr. Melissa also learned specialized techniques to use during pregnancy to optimize not only the Mom-to-be's body function, but also to optimize the baby's capability to develop and function optimally. These techniques have been proven to decrease pain and discomfort to the pregnant female, decrease labor pain by up to 50%, decrease labor time by 34%, decrease the chance of trauma to the mom or baby during delivery, and decrease the need for interventions during delivery. These techniques also help optimize baby development by ensuring proper nerve flow, which is vital to the developing baby. These techniques also help to optimize the baby position for better comfort for the baby and the mom, as well as helping the baby get into the best possible position for birth, limiting the chances of having a breech, transverse, oblique or posterior baby (which creates“back labor). Outside of the clinic, she enjoys being a mom, card stamping, scrapbooking, reading, golfing, traveling and public speaking– especially on health related topics.
