Acupunture stimulates the body's natural healing ability using energy flow through meridians in the body. Acupunture is a health science used to sucessfully treat pain, dysfuntion, and addiction in the body. At first glimpse, Acupuncture appears strange as its primary notoriety is the utilization of needeles placed in the skin at various locations to relieve pain or affect a body part. There is an energy ntework traversing just below the surface of the skin in which communicated from the exterior to the internal organs and structures at over 1000 "acupoints" on the body. This energy works in harmony with the body's circulatory, nervous, muscular, digestive and all other systems of the body. When this vital energy becomes blocked or weakend, an effect in a body system or or anatomic location becomes evident. Stimulation of one or a combination of key "acupoints" on the body may restore harmony to the affected area.
Acupunture corrects the balance in your body's energy. Imbalance in this energy may also cause food, smoking, and other addictions. Acupunture's goal is to restore normalcy to the body's energy balance by utilizing a combination of "acupoints" located on the twelve meridians. Restoring balance is accomplished by a variety of means, Dr. Melissa uses needles. It is easy to assume inserting a needle into the skin would be painful since many of us can relate to being stuck with a pin or having some sort of injection. However for Acupunture needles can easily be inserted into a hollow tube of a typical hypodermic needle - they are that small. Because of the slenderness of the needle, most people compare the sensations to "less than a mosquito bite."
